Ms. Lisa Pauley, Director of Music at FRIENDS Association for Children, is looking for volunteer music instructors. FRIENDS offers subsidized full-day care for children from 6 weeks of age through pre-kindergarten and after-school care for children from kindergarten through 5th grade. FRIENDS focuses on developing and nurturing the whole child, so there is an emphasis on academic excellence, health and nutrition, emotional development and creative expression. Much of the opportunity for creative expression is found in FRIENDS Music and Performing Arts Program, which was founded in 2007. Lessons are offered in piano, guitar, woodwinds, brasses, strings and drums and are taught exclusively by volunteer instructors, many of whom have been teaching in the program since it began. We are especially looking for Violin, Guitar, Piano, Flute, Brass and Drums. Our fall semester begins Monday, October 6th and we have lessons between the hours of 4 and 6.
The Hands of FRIENDS also interprets vocal music in American Sign Language, a beautiful and moving art form and have performed at various churches and venues throughout the city. Dance instruction in ballet, tap and other forms of dance allows children to express themselves through movement, while gaining confidence. The Bells of FRIENDS was the first performance ensemble established at FRIENDS and it has provided dozens of children and youth the opportunity to learn and grow using English Hand bells.
Please Lisa Pauley at email [email protected] or by phone at 644-2357. I look forward to hearing from you.
