Much of the opportunity for creative expression is found in FRIENDS Music and Performing Arts Program, which was founded in 2007. This vibrant program brings music into the pre-school classrooms as well as offering many diverse opportunities for older children.
Over 50 children participate in private music instruction. Lessons are offered in piano, guitar, woodwinds, brasses, strings and drums and are taught exclusively by volunteer instructors, many of whom have been teaching in the program since it began. We also offer group classes in Drum Line, Chorus, Hand Bells, and Dance with many of these groups performing out in the Richmond community.
The Music and Performing Arts Program is run exclusively by volunteer instructors and additional instructors are welcome at any time. As we prepare to begin our Fall Semester on October 3rd, we need to find additional instructors who would give of their time and talents to share their love of music to children who are starved to music and arts opportunities. These are all beginning lessons and a variety of instruments. Our fall semester runs from October 3rd through December 5th on Mondays between the hours of 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Jackson Ward or on Tuesday between 4-6 in Churchill. If you would love to make a difference in a child’s development and can volunteer anytime between the hours of 4 – 6:30, please contact Lisa Pauley at [email protected] or call 644-2357 x 115.
